Fraxel

Fraxel Laser Treatment is a revolutionary procedure that allows us to treat your skin problems in a new unique way never before possible. This unique fractional laser resurfacing technology leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This fractional treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area was treated at once; using the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthy tissue to replace skin imperfections. A Fraxel treatment eliminates sun spots and age spots, improves uneven pigmentation and melasma, and improves wrinkles and Stretch Marks with minimal downtime. It also helps improve acne scars. The Fraxel laser penetrates deeply into the skin dermis with thousands of tiny microthermal treatment zones.

How does it work?

It makes use of an Erbium glass laser that is passed several times over the treatment area causing fractional resurfacing with a million points of light. The laser causes microscopic wounding and the presence of normal tissue around the wounds allows for faster healing.

How long is the treatment?

The treatment lasts about 30 minutes to an hour.

How often should I do the treatment?

The treatment may be done every 1-4 weeks, depending on the assessment of the doctor, for 5-6 sessions.

Is the treatment painful?

Yes the treatment is painful. Local cream anesthetic (EMLA) is applied for about an hour before the treatment. Some patients may opt to do it under sedation.

What do you expect after the treatment?

Patients who receive Fraxel Laser Treatment can expect speedy healing and minimal to no downtime. There is a sensation of heat similar to that of a sunburn and the treated area will be red and swollen which may last for several hours to 2-3 days. The use of ice packs may relieve the discomfort. Bronzing of the area treated may be noted. Flakiness and peeling may take place 5-7 days after treatment. Patients can apply make-up immediately after treatment and return to routine activities. There is limited, if any, risk of infection or scarring.

When will I see results?

Fraxel produces great results. After the first treatment, you will begin to feel the difference in your skin, as it gradually becomes softer, smoother, tighter and fresher. Fraxel successfully minimizes fine lines and wrinkles as well as an ablative laser peel and evens out skin discolorations caused by the sun damage or aging. Multiple sessions are advised for maximized results and most people begin to notice positive changes in their skin within about a week and the improvements continue for about six months.

Who are the best candidates for Fraxel Laser Treatment?

Anyone who wants better skin complexion, to diminish fine lines or to improve skin discoloration can benefit from Fraxel.
