Candela V-Beam

The V-Beam Laser System is a mainstay vascular laser manufactured by Candela. This laser system has been utilized for safe and effective removal of port wine stain, birthmarks with a low incidence of scarring and permanent pigmentary change. Its unique Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) sprays cryogen onto the epidermis prior to each laser pulse, quickly and effectively cooling and protecting of the epidermis.

How does it work?

V-Beam uses an intense light of the 595mm wavelength, delivered in long pulses. It works by targeting the hemoglobin found in blood vessels causing coagulation and subsequent obliteration of the vascular lesion.

What conditions can be treated with V-Beam?

Telangiectasias – commonly known as facial spider veins or broken blood vessels
Rosacea (red face) – affecting the skin of the face around the nose, chin, and cheeks causing a blush or sunburned look.
Angiomas – small red spots which may be slightly raised or just beneath the surface of the skin
Port Wine Stain Birthmarks & Hemangiomas – vascular lesions that may grow rapidly after birth
Warts – small benign growths in the skin that usually appear on the hands or feet
Scars – red raised scars that are often caused by surgery, trauma, or burns (hypertropic scars and keloids)
Stretch Marks – frequently appearing after pregnancy over the stomach, thighs, buttocks, and lower back (erythematous or red stretchmarks)
Poikiloderma – redness and discoloration on the neck

How often should I do the treatment?

Multiple sessions are required and spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart.

Is the treatment painful?

Some patients may feel a slight discomfort associated with the laser pulse. This feeling has been described by patients as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin or a slight stinging sensation. This discomfort is minimized by the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD). For some patients, a local anesthetic cream (EMLA) may be used prior to treatment.

What do you expect after the treatment?

The area treated will look red and swollen and even raised. There are occasions when a bruised appearance or purpura is noted. These may last for a few days. There is a slight tingling and burning sensation on the treatment site lasting several minutes to a few hours.
