You have dieted and exercised yet there are still
stubborn areas of fat that will not go away. Your reason for choosing
liposuction may be as simple as just wanting to look better in
your clothes. While liposuction is not a replacement for a healthy
lifestyle, it can make you look and feel better.
What is the “Laser Assisted Liposuction”?
Invented by Dr. Rodrigo Niera of Columbia, this
latest method of liposuction utilizes a diode laser whose beam
can penetrate up to 6 inches of skin to cause the “melting
of the fat” which allows for easier and more painless suction.
More fat is removed because the fat is already liquefied and softened.
An added advantage is the “biostimulation” of the
skin’s elastic fibers which results in greater skin contraction
in a shorter period of time. The Belo Medical Group is the first
to bring this technology to our country.
What is the “External Ultrasound Assisted Tumescent Liposuction”?
This is a technique from Europe and the United States
which allows the liposurgeon to remove larger quantities of fat
safely and easily. The secret is in melting the fat using a tumescent
solution and ultrasound waves. The Belo Medical Group pioneered
this method in the Philippines and its Medical Director, Dr. Victoria
Belo, has been recognized as an expert; she has been invited to
discuss the topic at the World Congress on Liposuction in Pasadena,
California.
How will my skin look after surgery?
Right after surgery the area treated may be lumpy
and hard. This is the body’s natural reaction to being tampered
with. This will return to normal in about 3 months. Because of
the use of smaller instruments used, the liposurgeon can come
closer to the skin. This causes the skin to contract beautifully.
Many people are amazed at how folds disappear. Bruising on the
areas treated is a common occurrence.
What will recovery be like?
The first 24 hours after the procedure will allow
leaking of the tumescent solution through small incisions on the
area done. Post-treatment discomfort may be likened to muscle
pain associated with prolonged work out. However, there will be
no sharp pain. Most patients take a day off from work. Eighty
percent of patients return to work after two days. A compression
garment is required to be worn continuously for the first week
and reduced to only 12 hours on the second week. This is of utmost
importance to ensure good skin contraction and firmness.
Who are the best candidates for Liposuction?
The best candidates for liposuction are those in
good health and not more than 30% above their ideal body weight
with spot problems.

Is the fat removal permanent?
Yes! Tumescent liposuction permanently removes fat
cells to improve your body’s contour. Should you gain weight
after liposuction, it goes to the fat cells that remain distributed
in other body parts. The localized fatty deposits that existed
prior to liposuction can no longer balloon up out of proportion
to the surrounding areas.
Will Liposuction get rid of cellulite?
Liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite.
Although many patients notice an improvement in the appearance
of cellulite after the fat cells are removed, some would say it
is more evident. To further aid in the reduction of cellulite,
the Belo Medical Group offers several treatments such as Endermologie,
Mesotherapy and Lipolite.
