The Aurora PhotoFacial is a full face, neck, hand
or body treatment that combines the benefits of the optical energy
of an Intense Pulsed Light and RadioFrequency (RF). These gentle,
no-downtime treatments are used to improve the cosmetic appearance
of the face, neck or body and remove unwanted hair. The PhotoFacial
is the next generation in high-tech skin enhancement. It effectively
treats vascular and pigmented lesions with some degree of facial
rejuvenation.
How does the Aurora PhotoFacial procedure work?
The Aurora PhotoFacial procedure is a series of
six or more full face treatments, usually three to four weeks
apart. Each treatment takes around 30 minutes. Technically not
a laser, the Aurora delivers a burst of light energy synchronized
with a low intensity electrical pulse of radiofrequency energy.
This combination produces very efficient heating of dilated capillaries,
darkly pigmented spots, and hair follicles causing these unwanted
lesions to gradually fade after each treament.
Concurrently, the dermis is heated and fibroblasts
are stimulated to produce new collagen. The new collagen improves
wrinkles and scars, smoothens surface texture, shrinks dilated
pores and tightens loose skin. In a recent study conducted by
Drs. Bitter and Mulholland, the Aurora PhotoFacial procedure diminished
the appearance of fine lines on average around 60%. This degree
of improvement is about twice as much as other non-invasive light
and laser-based treatments.
Who can benefit from Aurora PhotoFacial treatments?
Men and women ages 30 and over who want clearer,
smoother and more radiant looking skin can benefit greatly from
Aurora PhotoFacial treatments. Younger individuals may benefit
too when used for hair removal.
What results can I expect and how soon can I expect to see the
results?
You will notice your skin feeling smoother immediately
following the treatment. Dark spots and broken capillaries may
be more noticeable during the first week and fade slowly thereafter.
Often times they fade away completely. Your skin color will begin
to look more even after several sessions; fine lines and wrinkles
are noted to smoothen with each treatment.
How frequently do I need treatments?
Treatments vary from case to case but most doctors
usually prescribe repeated treatments every month for a total
of 6 treatments. Quarterly maintenance may follow.
How long is the treatment?
Each treatment takes about 30 minutes and involves
pulses of bright visible light and radiofrequency energy that
are passed into the skin. Patients are required to have 5 to 6
treatments to see the desired results and they are performed every
3-4 weeks.
Can the Aurora PhotoFacial be combined with other treatments?
Yes, the Aurora can be combined with other treatments.
It may be preceded by a facial or a Power Peel depending on the
advice of your doctor. It can also be done together with the Polaris
PhotoFirm to achieve a more remarkable rejuvenating result.
What happens after each treatment?
Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts for a very
short time, and most people return to work or doing their normal
activities immediately after the treatment. The improvement in
pigmented and vascular irregularities can often be appreciated
by the time you return for your next treatment a month later.
Brown spots temporarily become darker before they lighten. A cream
may be given after the treatment.
How long will the skin enhancement effects of the Aurora PhotoFacial
last?
At the completion of the Aurora program –
skin will have achieved a noticeable and consistent degree of
improvement that over 90% of patients are very happy with it.
Occasionally, some patients desire an even greater degree of improvement
and these patients will sign up for additional procedures. Most
Aurora patients who just want to maintain what they have achieved
from the program are advised to undergo maintenance treatments
every 2-4 months. This will keep the skin look nice and youthful.
