Here’s What You Need To Know About Baby Botox

By Ysabel Vitangcol on March 29, 2018

It’s all about smaller doses and more natural results.

Baby Botox is the newest treatment that’s becoming popular with the Instagram generation—and for good reason, too. “The purpose of the treatment is still corrective, but the effect you get is more natural-looking—no more frozen faces,” explains Dr. Vicki Belo. Compared to traditional Botox which aims to smoothen and get rid of almost all visible wrinkles and lines, Baby Botox is used more for skin lifting and tightening, making it more ideal for younger women between the ages of 20 to 40. “It’s a lot more subtle since this is a diluted type of Botox, trimmed down to 1/4 or 1/3 of what the normal Botox unit is,” adds Dr. Belo. “We usually do this [by making very superficial injections] around the jawline to lift the face.”

Thinking about giving Baby Botox a try? Here are the Top 5 things you should know about the injectable treatment:

  1. There’s no harm in starting young.
Dr. Belo says that the official age of aging is 25. This means that if you want to avoid doing the big facelift later on and you want to look 25 for a longer time, Baby Botox is the way to go. “Most of the muscles on our face tend to pull our faces down especially as we get older, so we look a little more tired,” says Dr. Belo. “So if your beauty goal is to look fresh and young—as if you just woke up beautiful—Baby Botox can make that happen.”
  2. You need to be gentle with your face post-treatment.
The Botox solution that the doctors inject can actually move to the different areas of your face, which is why it’s important to cleanse your face lightly and use a very soft touch when applying makeup on your face for about 3 to 5 days after your treatment. More things you should steer clear of: using electronic cleansing brushes, facial massages, and strenuous exercise.
  3. The effects won’t last as long as regular Botox.
While a normal Botox treatment can last for 3 to 6 months, the effects of Baby Botox only last around 2 to 4 months because of the lower dosage. Even though this means that you’ll have to come in for more treatments throughout the year, the subtle changes you’ll be making over a longer period of time will also appear less obvious to the people around you.
  4. Not all doctors are the same.
“Botox is really an art, and not everybody does it the same way,” says Dr. Belo. That’s why it’s really important that you come in for a consultation with your doctor and discuss what effect or look you want from your treatment. “Think of it this way: Everyone can have the same tools, but it’s the artist who paints the painting,” says Dr. Belo. “That’s why we’re very proud of the Belo doctors. They have a lot of experience and get a lot of training, so they paint the painting well.”
  5. Make sure you schedule a follow-up appointment.
Most patients can see the results of Baby Botox immediately after their session and notice improvements every day. But since the best results can be seen after two weeks, it’s good to schedule a follow-up session around this time so the doctor can check how you’re progressing and how happy you are with the results.
