For years, Thermage has been heralded the “lunchtime facelift” because you can make a quick trip to the doctor, get the treatment and then slink back to your desk with your co-workers being none the wiser for it—unless they peer really, really close and notice that the skin around your jaw seems tighter, your eyes look more awake, and that you look as if you swallowed one of those ring lights people use to diffuse their flaws when they take a selfie.
The skin-tightening treatment deserves its moniker more than than ever, with the launch of the brand’s latest iteration, Thermage FLX. The latest update to the classic skin-tightening technology comes with some new bells and whistles, and a few more tricks up its sleeve, including more noticeable, immediate results and faster treatment times—you can slip out of the office during lunch, get a treatment, and still have time to grab a smoothie and a bagel on your way back.
Like its predecessor, Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency energy to heat the skin from the inside out. This heating process shrinks collagen and signals it to exit the body, resulting in an immediate tightening effect of the skin. This also results in new production of collagen over time, leading to smoother skin and firmer contours. The deployed heat also helps firm up pudgy bellies and jiggly thighs, and softens creases in the neck and décolletage area.
The new Thermage FLX machine, however, delivers energy more quickly and even deeper into the skin tissue, which means you get the tightening effect straightaway and in about 25 percent less time—what usually takes an hour can now be done in 45 minutes. This improvement is made possible by increasing the size of the tips that are used to treat the patient, which are now 33 percent larger, enabling a more extensive surface area to be targeted. The procedure is supposedly more comfortable, too, thanks to a vibrating handpiece that makes the procedure more tolerable.
Thermage FLX also works more efficiently because of AccuREP, a technology that provides a precise dosage and a more fine-tuned pulse to each treatment area, ensuring that each energy pulse is as effective as the last one.
“The experience is so much better than the old Thermage,” says Dr. Vicki Belo herself after trying out Thermage FLX. “It really helps with defining the jawline and lifting the skin on the forehead. My eyes look more open. I look more fresh.”
Dr. Belo is not the only one touting the bigger and better benefits of the new Thermage FLX. Anne Curtis, showbiz darling and the ambassador for the newest Thermage machine is also a huge fan of FLX, and loves how it gives her face and body a discreet, but ultimately effective, tune-up.
After a Thermage FLX treatment, the texture, clarity and firmness of your skin will only continue to improve over the subsequent months. But the folks behind Solta Medical, makers of Thermage, hinted that optimal results are revealed faster with Thermage FLX—you see a younger-looking you within one to three months as opposed to the three- to six- month wait with the older Thermage machines. Results are also more lasting; if you’re lucky—and if your collagen cooperates—you won’t need to get another Thermage FLX treatment for another 18 to 24 months.
