This procedure corrects dark blemishes and even out the skin tone by inhibiting the production of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. It has two phases: The first is an in-clinic session, where a hydroquinone-free depigmenting mask is applied and left on the problem area for six to 10 hours. For the second phase, the patient continues the treatment at home by applying the prescribed Cosmelan 2 cream plus a sunblock for three weeks.
What it targets:
Hyperpigmentation (sun spots, age spots, and other imperfections) in the face and body
Mild redness and flaking is expected a few days after the application of the Cosmelan mask. Significant lightening of the pigmentation is seen after a week, with optimum results becoming evident in the succeeding weeks.
