Cosmetic Surgery

Rhinoplasty, Alar Trimming

Rhinoplasty is more commonly referred to as a nose job, this cosmetic surgery involves reshaping and resizing the nose to enhance facial harmony or to restore structure and function, especially after an injury. The surgery may last anywhere from one to two hours, depending on the extent of the surgery needed. It is usually done under twilight sedation and is an out-patient procedure.

The Belo Medical Group prides itself in creating natural-looking and long-lasting Rhinoplasty surgeries. There are two types: Augmentation, or the building of the bridge of flat noses (predominant in most Asians), and Reduction, which entails reduction of the protruding bony and cartilaginous structures (common in Europeans, Indians, and those of Middle Eastern descent). For Nasal Bridge Enhancement, implants made of Goretex—which has good tissue compatibility and is highly stable and safe—are inserted to create a more natural look.

Alarplasty, or the trimming of the nostril (alae) may also be done to reduce the width of the nose. Hanging alae may also be corrected through an Alar Lift technique. Through Tip Plasty, the cartilage at the tip of the nose may also be enhanced and cartilage from the septum of the ears may be added if needed.

What it targets:

Improvement of the shape and structure of the nose

Downtime:

Patients are usually advised to rest and take it easy for a week. A thermoplast splint is placed at the bridge of the nose to prevent further swelling and to remind the patient not to touch the nose during this time. While the initial swelling subsides after a couple of weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nose to be fully healed.
